Including London there are now 19 Low Emission Zones (LEZ) in the UK, and we should really count London as two as there is a ULEZ zone as well as a central Congestion Charging Zone.
The proliferation of LEZ restrictions to other cities was inevitable as soon as the original London scheme was proven to deliver improved air quality over a wide area.
While these are not yet total ZERO emission zones there are specific areas or roads within London and Oxford which are Zero Zones at certain times of day so only vehicles with zero emissions are permitted to drive for free, other vehicles must pay a daily charge.
We are fully behind the idea that public transport and other methods of getting around like cycling and walking will almost always be the best option in many cases it must be acknowledged that this does not suit everyone at all times.
