St. Benedict’s School EV Charging Installation – Bury St. Edmunds

Featuring 3 x 22kW Hydra Genesis Lite Dual EV Chargers

St. Benedict’s School in Bury St. Edmunds wanted to expand its EV charging facilities while making the most of available Government Grant Funding support due to limited CAPEX budget availability.

Hydra EVC worked closely with the school and our Approved Installer Partner, Aspect Group Services, to design and deliver a future-proofed charging solution that maximised value and minimised unnecessary infrastructure costs.

Customer Requirements

St. Benedict’s School was looking for a cost-effective EV charging solution that could:

  • Utilise available Government Grant Funding support for schools
  • Operate within a limited CAPEX budget
  • Support both current and future EV charging demand
  • Provide reliable connectivity during peak school operating hours
  • Deliver a scalable, future-ready charging infrastructure.

Hydra’s Solution

Hydra EVC carried out an initial consultation to fully understand the school’s current and future charging requirements, including potential usage by staff, visitors and wider site users.

Following the consultation, Hydra recommended installing additional charging sockets at minimal extra cost, allowing the school to significantly increase charging capacity while future-proofing the site for growing EV adoption.

To ensure maximum charger reliability and uptime, Hydra also reviewed the local connectivity environment. Due to daytime network congestion during school drop-off and collection periods, ethernet hardwiring was identified as the most robust and dependable connectivity solution.

Installation & Project Delivery

Hydra Approved Installer Partner, Aspect Group Services, managed the installation project from survey through to commissioning.

The project included:

  • A free full site survey to assess available power supply and identify the most cost-effective charger locations
  • Careful planning to minimise groundworks and reduce installation costs
  • Re-use of as much existing electrical infrastructure and componentry as possible to remain within budget
  • Full project management and installation delivery
  • Redemption of the Government Grant Funding Voucher through Aspect Group Services’ OZEV Approved Installer status.

The Outcome

The completed installation delivered a significantly enhanced EV charging facility for St. Benedict’s School.
