a3a Energy, working on behalf of Dike & Son Supermarket, a community-focused retail site in Stalbridge, Dorset.
The Challenge
a3a Energy approached Hydra to provide expert guidance and deliver a tailored EV charging solution for their customer. The site required a reliable, flexible charging setup that could accommodate both rapid and longer dwell-time charging, while working within the constraints of available power supply and parking capacity.
In addition, the project required integration with a third-party OCPP operating platform, adding an extra layer of technical coordination.
The Solution
Following initial consultations, Hydra recommended a combination of rapid DC and fast AC chargers to balance performance and accessibility for a wide range of users.
To support the delivery:
- Hydra hosted a hands-on session for a3a Energy, providing in-depth familiarity with the DC charger range and installation process
- The Hydra team worked closely with all stakeholders, including the OCPP platform provider and e-POS operator, to ensure smooth system integration
- Ongoing technical support was provided throughout the planning and pre-installation stages, including guidance on site signage and operational setup
The Outcome
The final installation delivered a high-quality, future-ready public charging hub:
- A Hydra Goliath 90kW DC Rapid Dual Charger for high-speed charging
- A Hydra Tertia 22kW AC Dual Floor Standing Charger for flexible, longer-duration charging
The installation process was completed efficiently, with Hydra’s technical team providing remote setup support to ensure everything operated correctly from day one.
Hydra has continued to support a3a Energy post-installation, offering technical assistance and guidance on alternative operating platform options for both this site and future projects.
The Result
This project demonstrates the value of close collaboration between Hydra and a3a Energy. Despite some third-party technical challenges beyond Hydra’s control, strong communication and proactive support helped build trust and establish a solid working relationship.
