Aldingbourne Country Centre EV Charging Installation – West Sussex

Featuring 40kW DC Dual & 22kW AC Dual EV Chargers

Aldingbourne Country Centre is operated by the Aldingbourne Trust, a West Sussex charity providing opportunities for adults with learning disabilities and autism to live meaningful and fulfilled lives while positively contributing to their communities.

The Trust has supported more than 2,000 people into paid and voluntary work and welcomes over 80,000 visitors to the Centre every year. Every pound generated on site is reinvested back into supporting the charity’s important work.

The Trust required a suitable EV charging facility within its main visitor car park to support visitor charging, public charging for passing traffic and future charging requirements as the organisation transitions its commercial vehicle fleet to electric minibuses.

As a charity organisation, funding both the installation and charging hardware presented a significant challenge. Hydra EVC therefore delivered a fully funded EV charging solution, managed by Hydra CPO, while working closely with the customer and Hydra Approved Installer Partner, MB Electrical EV, to ensure a smooth and carefully managed installation process.

Customer Requirements

The Aldingbourne Trust required an EV charging solution that could:

  • Support visitors, public charging users and future fleet charging requirements
  • Operate reliably within the Centre’s busy visitor environment
  • Minimise disruption to daily charity operations during installation
  • Deliver a future-proofed and flexible charging facility
  • Avoid upfront capital expenditure costs for the charity

Hydra’s Solution

Hydra EVC worked closely with the Aldingbourne Trust to fully understand site operations, visitor demand and future EV charging requirements.

Together with Hydra Approved Installer Partner, MB Electrical EV, a detailed site survey was undertaken to assess the existing electrical infrastructure, identify the most suitable charger locations and minimise trenching and site disruption.

Following consultations with the customer, Hydra proposed a flexible charging facility comprising both 40kW DC Dual and 22kW AC Dual charge points. This approach provided a mix of rapid and fast charging options suitable for conference centre users, daytime visitors and future commercial vehicle charging requirements.

The proposed solution was carefully designed to operate using the site’s existing available power supply, helping to minimise infrastructure upgrade costs.

Hydra EVC also provides the ongoing operation and management of the charging network through Hydra CPO, including charger monitoring, management services and regular remittance payments based on an agreed share of charging revenues. This enables the charity to benefit from the charging facility without adding operational burden to its internal teams.

Installation & Project Delivery

MB Electrical EV project managed the installation from initial survey through to final commissioning.

The project included:

  • A full site survey and infrastructure assessment
  • Careful charger positioning to minimise trenchworks and site disruption
  • Coordination of civils works and EV bay markings
  • Installation of both DC and AC dual charge points
  • Installation of a standalone contactless payment terminal mounted on a pedestal between the chargers for simple and convenient card payments
  • Full project management to minimise disruption to the charity’s day-to-day operations

The Outcome

The completed installation delivered a flexible and future-ready public EV charging facility for Aldingbourne Country Centre.
