Case Study:
Hydra HQ 22kw Zodiac
We had the Zodiac 22kW EV Charger installed at our head office car park, making good use of the 3-phase electrical supply to facilitate faster charging for vehicles which can accommodate it.
Like most commercial offices and workplaces the building operates on a 3-phase electrical supply. Although this is an older electrical network it was adequate to install a 22kW EV charger.
Armoured cable was run from the main fusebox to the point where the charger was to be installed.
Armoured cable is heavy and not easy to handle when using a longer length. It was safely secured in place across the top of the loading bay shutter.
Marking out the mounting position using he Hydra Zodiac mounting backplate as a guide.
Small holes were drilled and rawlplugs inserted to hold the backplate securely.
The backplate has one fixed point at the top and two slotted holes at the bottom
A hole was drilled through the wall to feed the armoured cable through.
The armoured cable was fed through and the ends stripped ready to connect to the Zodiac.
The Zodiac is fitted with a quick-connect adapter to make installation a simple and straightforward process but in this instance the installer removed the quick-connect adapter and wired the Zodiac charger direct to the armour cable.
When wiring direct to the Zodiac it is important to treat the faceplace with great care. There are internal components which cannot be disturbed or disconnected. Also take care not to scratch the faceplate by resting it on the floor.
Once connected and the faceplate was reattached the Zodiac EV charger was attached to the metal backplate installed earlier.
After a few quick checks with an EV simulator it was confirmed that the Zodiac was fully operational.
